Over view Sports Friends International (Uganda) is a non profit organization that has been working in a number of communities among young people using the powerful relational tool of sports, within a strategic community-centered approach to holistic transformation of their lives and coming to full knowledge of the saving power of Jesus Christ.
By empowering young people using the universal language of sports and games, we develop effective leadership strategies for winning and growing them into winners hence community transformation.
Programs
Our programs stretch from Sports Camps, Global Community Games i.e. Kids-Games, Teen-Games and Family-Games, Adventure and leadership Camping, clinics, workshops and seminars, Team Building with experiential learning activities with Value Based Sports & Fun Games.
From these programs we select young people that have leadership potential to be in the Leadership training that is held simultaneously during our Camps for further mentorship.
Camping
We started camps fours years ago and we have been having on average 115 kids and teenagers three times a year. We rent school facilities from where we hold these camps.
At the inception, the whole idea was to create a learning experience and fun environment through which values, life skills and the gospel can be imparted and presented. With the growing need and build of this camping culture, the challenges and needs are beyond our reach thus seek partnership and call for support.
The Need
The Message
Sports and Games is not our primary message though important, but the vehicle through which the life transforming message of Jesus Christ is communicated.
Our camps now register even a greater percentage of moslems, whose parents are no longer threatened to the open gospel presentation but look forward more to the impact it creates in the life of their children. We praise God that!
The Country
With a country like Uganda, where approximately 50% of population is under 18 years, camps is the sure way to go to raise leaders that will be resourceful in transformation of communities and nation. With the growing number of Orphans due HIV/AIDS, absentee fathers, single parenting, children in Uganda have increasingly become more vulnerable and prey to all sorts of evil in the society.
Camps is not only viewed as an evangelistic tool to reaching Ugandan Children with the gospel but also a discipleship tool and a medium through which life skills and christian/biblical values are learned.
Vulnerable children and teenagers is become part of the society especially due to HIV/AIDS that in the last 2 decades wiped out the adult generation highly exposing us to a realm of hopelessness.
HOPE, Hope is now our greatest need!
Camp is a place to be, missing it, is one of the greatest disservice I can give my self in the year. I always look forward to a week long time away from the worries at my home. Every body at camp cares about me. Kaggwa 12, Camp 2008 |
